“We must remain vigilant”: a “sprinkling” of snow covers our country, discover the weather forecast for the next few days

This Friday morning, you could see when you woke up that it snowed on our country during the night. A thin layer of snow which remains relatively anecdotal as to its influence on traffic conditions, as our journalist Guillaume Fraikin has seen.

Having left Liège for Walloon Brabant, our journalist “is in the parking lot of Rixensart station and there is indeed a light layer of snow covering the ground on the edge of the roadways.”

“It’s a small centimeter at most, a light dusting”, he specifies. “On the road, it rolls perfectly well, since Liège, I didn’t come across any problem or place where the snow could cause accidents. But it was mainly highways and major roads.”

If the snow does not seem to have an impact on busy roads, our journalist recommends caution on secondary roads: “there could be a slight risk of slipping“. Idem “for cyclists, you must remain vigilant to the risk of slipping. We know that cycle paths are often plowed later than roads.”

Finally, the last piece of advice from our journalist is for everyone, drivers or not: “Enjoy the white landscapes, the snow might not last very long“.

Weather

Friday will be mostly dry, then wintry showers will roll in from the north. It will be very cloudy with only a few rare clearings and already low winter precipitation in the first hours. During the day, more showers from the Netherlands, in the form of rain, sleet or even sleet, will punctuate our weather.

At the end of the day, they will generalize and take the form of melting snowfall or snow in Upper Belgium. The maxima will vary between 0 and 2 degrees in the Ardennes, +3 to +4 degrees in the center and +5 degrees at the coast. The wind will be moderate from west to southwest. On the coast, it will generally be quite strong from west turning to northwest with peaks of 55 km/h.

Saturday, the weather will be dry with sunny spells and cloudy periods. Mainly in the south of the country, a few banks of freezing fog may hang around in the morning. The maxima will vary between -2 degrees in the Hautes Fagnes, +1 degree in the center and +3 degrees at sea. The wind will be light to moderate from the northeast.

Sunday at dawn, the weather will be cold and gray with frosts in most areas and a risk of freezing fog. Some clearings may manage to sneak in during the day, especially in the west of the country. And mainly in its eastern part, light snowfall will be possible. This risk will persist the following night. The maxima will oscillate between -3 degrees in the Hautes Fagnes, +2 degrees in the center and around +4 degrees by the sea. The wind will be weak to moderate from the north or from a variable direction.

Monday, the weather will remain dry with abundant cloudiness in the morning and locally risk of freezing fog banks. In the course of the afternoon and especially in the evening, clearings will extend over all regions but the cold will increase. The maxima will vary between -2 degrees in the Hautes Fagnes and +5 degrees in the far west. Weak and variable wind.

Mardi, after a cold night with sometimes severe frosts and a risk of morning greyness, the weather will be dry with generous sunshine. At the end of the day, the sky will begin to cover the coast. The maxima will be between -2 and +3 degrees, from east to west. The wind will be weak from variable direction.

Wednesday, the rain will (very) gradually return from the west. To the south of the Sambre and Meuse furrow, precipitation will arrive in the afternoon or evening and may take on a winter character (freezing rain or snow). The maxima will vary between -1 degree in the upper Ardennes, +3 or +4 degrees in the center and around +6 degrees by the sea. The south to southwest wind will strengthen to become moderate.

Thursday, some periods of precipitation (often rain) may pass through our country. The maximum temperatures will be positive everywhere, between 2 and 8 degrees.
