The first snowstorm of the season, with its promise of a white Christmas, is upon us. Here is everything you need to know about this big broadside from a system that has already caused some headaches for our neighbors to the south.

How many cm are expected from you?
Expected snowfall amounts differ from region to region.
Estrie and Montérégie are the regions that should receive the most snow with 20 to 30 centimeters expected.
Montreal, Outaouais, Lanaudière and the Laurentians should receive 15 to 20 cm of snow.
For the other regions of the province, it is still too early to determine the amount of snow expected.
When does it start falling?
Snowfall is expected to begin early Friday morning.
The Outaouais will receive the first snowflakes at the end of the night or very early in the morning.
For Montreal, Estrie, Montérégie, the Laurentians and Lanaudière, the first snowfall should begin to appear Friday morning around rush hour.
It is therefore the return home that will be more complicated for motorists in these regions.

The system will then move towards the east of the province.
For Mauricie, Quebec and Beauce, the snow will start to fall late in the afternoon.
The return home should therefore not be complicated on the roads, but the conditions will deteriorate in the evening.
The system should affect Eastern Quebec on Sunday.
Can we talk about a snowstorm?
Although significant accumulations of snow are announced, we cannot speak of a snowstorm, according to Simon Legault, meteorologist at Environment Canada.
To achieve snowstorm status, the system must leave at least 25 cm of snow in 24 hours or be mixed with other weather phenomena such as freezing rain.
