Kallianos: The hard times come from Friday

Meteorologist Yiannis Kallianos mentioned the rapid change in the weather in yesterday’s Mega news bulletin. As he said, today Thursday (18/4) will be a transitional day, as “local rains are expected mainly in the western and northern parts of the country. That is, in the Ionian Islands, in the western mainland and in Macedonia and Thrace”.

However, as the well-known meteorologist pointed out, the difficult times come from Friday (19/4) at noon until Saturday (20/4) at noon, drawing the attention of citizens for this 24-hour period of intense phenomena.

Weather: The 10 areas at risk

“We’re going to have a major storm. A nationwide bad weather that will affect the Eptanisa, the mainland, Peloponnese, Sterea, Evia, Sporades, Thessaly, Epirus, Macedonia, Thrace and the Aegean islands. But I will focus on specific sections. I will focus on the areas in the northern continental parts. Central and Eastern Macedonia and Thrace and the islands of the Eastern Aegean. In these areas the phenomena will have both intensity and duration. They will be accompanied by strong storms and winds and we will probably have flooding phenomena at a local level. It seems that the worst weather will hit there,” said Mr. Kallianos.

“If we want to be more specific: Beware of Thessaloniki, Halkidiki, Kavala, Alexandroupoli and later Lesbos, Lemnos, Chios, Samos, Ikaria, Kos. These are the areas where the most water will fall and possibly with great intensity,” he added.

“Besides these, we will also have a drop in temperature, by 10 degrees Celsius compared to the previous days. It will go to 21-23 degrees, maybe locally and a little below. It will also turn into snow in some areas at high altitudes, above 1,500-1,700 meters in the mountains of Northern Greece. From Sunday-Monday, not that the weather will improve particularly, there will be remnants of the bad weather, but they will not be a problem anymore”, concluded the well-known meteorologist.

Weather: Nicoletta Ziakopoulou’s forecast

The meteorologist of ERT, Nikoleta Ziakopoulou, draws the attention of the citizens to the critical two days of Friday and Saturday where the height of the rain will be high and in fact she does not rule out possible flooding mainly in Thessaly, Macedonia, Thrace, northern and eastern Aegean.

In more detail, on Thursday in western, northern Greece and the eastern Aegean we expect local rains and a few storms, with enough sun for the rest. West winds 5 to 6 and south 7 Beaufort. The temperature at noon will reach 20 degrees in the west, up to 24 in the rest.

In Attica we expect plenty of sunshine. West winds up to 5 Beaufort. The temperature from 14 to 24 degrees.

In Thessaloniki, some local showers are possible at noon and in the afternoon. Winds northwest to 5 Beaufort. The temperature from 10 to 21 degrees.

On Friday we expect a lot of rain and storms mainly from noon and the west, with stronger effects from the evening in Thessaly, Macedonia, Thrace and the northern Aegean. Winds up to 7 Beaufort, temperature up to 23 degrees.
