Work has already begun on the folk festival site so that the big hustle and bustle can start again in three weeks: From April 5th to 7th, the Wels trade fair is once again expecting thousands of visitors to the Wels folk festival. “We have once again put together a diverse offering so that there is something for all visitors,” says trade fair director Robert Schneider.
It starts on Thursday with the test lighting including the beer tapping. During and after the ceremonial opening, “Die Südsteirer” entertained the audience in the large “Zum Ludwig” festival tent. DJ Matty Valentino will be playing from 10.30 p.m. and DJ Schranzi will take over at 11.15 p.m. DJ Rico Costa sets the tone at the wine tasting. The traditional family afternoon should not be missed: from 1 p.m. on April 5th there will be up to 50 percent discount on rides and stands for families.
Celebrate with the “party deer”
There is celebration in the evenings: the “Party Deer” perform in the festival tent on Friday and the “Elchos” on Saturday. Before and after there will be music from the DJ. In the wine village there will be dancing to the music of DJ Rico Costa on the first day of the festival from 8 p.m., and Daniel Merano will be playing there on Saturday. There is also party music at Weinkost from Thursday to Saturday, and on Friday DJ Alex turns back time and plays hits from the 80s and 90s.
Sunday is a hearty day: While the traditional morning pint takes place in the festival tent from 11.30 a.m., there is something new in the wine tasting area: on the “Culinary Sunday” there is a white sausage breakfast, followed by a Schilcher tasting and from 3 p.m. live music with Brettljause . “Three innkeepers have come up with a nice program. We also want to host the wine tasting on Sunday,” explains project manager Christine Wimmer, who is responsible for organizing and setting up the folk festival.
On all days of the festival, the numerous food stalls and rides attract visitors, with some well-known favorites returning this year after a long time.

Vacation and excursion
At the same time as the folk festival, the “Holiday and Excursion” trade fair takes place in Wels. The exhibitors from Austria and neighboring countries present trends for nature experiences, wellness, day trips and city trips. This year the focus is on caravanning and camping.
At the “Blooming Austria” trade fair, in addition to the various show gardens in Halls 5 and 6, there is a wide range of information on trends and technical innovations as well as the “rarity market”. There will be a barbecue in the outdoor area.
