West Virginia vs. Oklahoma Big 12 Baseball Series Preview: Matchups, Pitchers, and More!

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team returns to Big 12 action this weekend as the Mountaineers head to Oklahoma to take on the Sooners. Friday’s game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET, Saturday is set for 5 p.m. ET, and Sunday is scheduled for a 1 p.m. ET first pitch.

Friday’s game will air on national TV on FS1 while Saturday and Sunday’s contests will stream on Big 12 Now on ESPN+. All three games will be available to listen to on the radio as well with Friday and Sunday airing on all radio affiliates of the Mountaineer Sports Network while Saturday will be on WBKE 98.3/1490 AM. All three games will also be available to listen to on the Varsity Network, WVU Gameday App, and WVUSports.com.

Probable Starting Pitchers

RHP Aidan Major vs. LHP Braden Davis
LHP Derek Clark vs. RHP Brendan Girton
LHP Tyler Switalski vs. LHP James Hitt

The Mountaineers are 12-9 and are coming off a 15-0 midweek win over in-state rival Marshall in which they hit five home runs, including two from senior Reed Chumley. The WVU pitching staff struck out 13 in its third shutout of the season.

In Big 12 play, West Virginia is 2-1 with a series win over BYU under its belt. In its most recent weekend series, WVU dropped two games to Ohio State in its final non-conference series of the year.

Chumley leads the Mountaineers with a .340 batting average and is tied for the team lead in home runs with four along with sophomore Sam White and junior Grant Hussey.

Junior Aidan Major will get the ball on Friday night for WVU looking for his fourth win of the season. He has a 2.81 ERA and is second in the Big 12 with 38 strikeouts. Senior Derek Clark and junior Tyler Switalski round out the weekend rotation for the Mountaineers.

Oklahoma comes into the weekend ranked No. 17 in the latest D1Baseball poll and is 6-0 in the Big 12 to go along with the 13-7 overall record.

John Spikerman leads the Sooners with a .394 batting average while Michael Snyder has a team-high nine home runs.

Braden Davis will get the ball on Friday night and is 1-1 with a 5.09 ERA in 23.0 innings pitched
