Western Michigan Broncos vs. North Dakota Fighting Hawks: NCAA Hockey Preview, How to Watch, and Game Info

GRAND FORKS, ND — In the beginning of an important two-game weekend, the Western Michigan Broncos look for a statement win against the North Dakota Fighting Hawks on Friday night.

The Broncos come into Grand Forks after another tough road matchup last weekend, when they picked up a split with St. Cloud State. They were led by NCHC Rookie of the Month, Alex Bump, who scored twice in WMU’s 4-3 overtime win last Friday, including the game-winner in overtime.

However, the Broncos are trying to find consistency in conference play. While they have picked up victories over the Huskies and high-powered Denver, they have failed to earn a weekend sweep. It is typically tough to make that happen in Grand Forks, but Western Michigan accomplished the feat last January.

This Fighting Hawks are certainly not the same team the Broncos beat up last season. They are a determined, experienced group with excellent goaltending and balanced scoring. Despite getting swept by Colorado College two weeks ago, North Dakota turned things around on home ice last weekend, beating up Minnesota Duluth, outscoring the Bulldogs, 10-2.

North Dakota leads the NCHC, three points ahead of St. Cloud State, while the Broncos sit fifth, three points back of the Tigers for fourth.
