Some people wake up at night because they feel numbness in their limbs, especially the hands, and sometimes the feeling is like a needle prick.
In this article, we will review the main reasons that lead to this problem:
1. Sleeping position.
Sleeping on our stomach with our hands under our bodies, lying on our back with our hands under our heads, or snoozing on our side and twisting our arms are bad sleeping positions that can cause extended pressure on our nerves.
2. A pinched nerve.
The ulnar nerve extends from the shoulder to the elbow and is responsible for providing sensation to our hands. Possible symptoms of a pinched or compressed ulnar nerve include wrist pain, weak grip, and numbness in the hand. The pain usually goes away on its own, but if it lasts for more than two days, it may It’s time to see a doctor.
3. Vitamin B12 deficiency.
Vitamin B12 found naturally in meat, fish, poultry and dairy products keeps our nerves and blood cells healthy, and a lack of vitamin B12 in the body can cause neurological problems, which may appear through a sense of deficiency or tingling.
4. Stress and anxiety.
When we feel anxious or stressed, our body activates the escape response, in which stress hormones are released, in order to improve our ability to deal with stress or anxiety. This physiological reaction involves redirecting blood flow to other parts of the body that are most important to our survival.
Decreased blood circulation in certain areas leads to tingling and needle sensations, and stress can also cause our muscles to tense up, which can lead to a tingling feeling.
5. Underlying medical conditions.
