In the 1970s she starred in the cult series “Charlie’s Angels”. But after three seasons, the actress got out. How has Kate Jackson progressed since then?
Originally it was only supposed to be one Angels for Charlie give, not three. And that one angel should Playing Kate Jackson, who was specifically written for the role.
But then the producers changed their minds and put two more angels by their side for the start of the series in 1976. Firstly, the blonde bombshell Farrah Fawcett, who became famous as the best-selling poster girl in a red bathing suit. On the other hand, the hot-blooded Jaclyn Smith with the distinctive curly mane, who was the only one from the starting cast to the end of the series in 1981 and two decades later a guest role in the movie “Charlie’s Angels” alongside Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu received. But what became of Kate Jackson?
Kate Jackson was the smart angel
Brunette Kate Jackson with straight shoulder-length hair starred in “Charlie’s Angels” played smart angel Sabrina Duncan for three seasons. B23 million television viewers tuned in at the time for the weekly episodes of “Charlie’s Angels” and showered the three leading actresses with fan mail.
Despite the success, Kate Jackson became increasingly dissatisfied. She criticized the script’s shallow plot and refused, for example, to appear in a bikini. Her decision to leave the series entirely came in 1979 after she received an offer to star in the film Kramer vs. Kramer opposite Dustin Hoffman. Because of the inflexible shooting schedule of “Charlie’s Angels” she had to decline. Instead of Kate Jackson, Meryl Streep was cast and won her first Oscar.
“Agent with a heart” and a heavy fate
Even if Kate Jackson continued to have great success as an actress after “Charlie’s Angels”: She was never nominated for an Oscar, but with her next leading role at least for Golden Globe and Emmy. As “Agentin mit Herz” in the series of the same name, which she also produced, reached an audience of millions in the 1980s. Other films, however, flopped. Things weren’t going so well for the American at the time either: three divorces, breast cancer, a serious heart defect.
The tide only turned when the chemotherapy kicked in, the heart surgery was a success and she was able to adapt a boy. Kate Jackson recovered, starred in more than 15 television films. She was last seen in the series “Criminal Minds” in 2007.
The 74-year-old is currently writing her memoirs and, according to American media, is said to be living in seclusion on a ranch in Virginia.
