A serious incident happened on the evening of January 12, causing the female victim to not survive. In addition, another young man, when he tried to stop Thanh, was stabbed and injured by the object.
According to the Hanoi City Police, professional units of the Hanoi City Police have mobilized Hoang Van Thanh to surrender to the act of murder.
According to the investigation, Hoang Van Thanh used to have feelings for Ms. P (SN 2003, Lai Chau). On the evening of January 12, 2023, Thanh discovered Ms. P sitting drinking water with Mr. D (SN 1995, Hanoi) on Vuong Thua Vu Street.
At about 23 o’clock on the same day, Ms. P and Mr. D went to Ms. P’s sister’s nail shop and met Thanh on a motorbike. Due to the fact that Ms. P had feelings for Mr. D, there was a conflict between Thanh and Ms. P, shouting at each other in front of house number 84 Vuong Thua Vu.

Thanh took a knife and stabbed her repeatedly, causing Ms. P to die on the spot. Mr. D saw that Ms. P was stabbed by Thanh, so he rushed to intervene, but Thanh held a knife and stabbed her left hand, causing injury. After committing the crime, Thanh fled the scene.
Immediately upon receiving the news, Thanh Xuan District Police rushed to the scene, took witness statements, and coordinated with the Criminal Police Department and functional units to arrest the subject.
On the evening of January 14, the Criminal Police Department of the City Public Security coordinated with the Thanh Xuan District Police to lobby Thanh to surrender.
According to a representative of Thanh Xuan District Police, in the process of solving the case, the force quickly identified the suspect and conducted an arrest. Not long after, the authorities located Thanh hiding in a public area in Long Bien district.
In order to avoid the suspect being agitated or committing suicide, functional forces coordinated to mobilize Thanh to surrender.
On January 15, meeting Thanh after many hours of arrest, according to PV Dan Viet’s observations, a young man born in 1998 seemed anxious and restless. Still bleached hair, still skinny body like the picture on the internet but not as shiny as before. Answering PV’s question, Thanh calmly answered clearly, sometimes mumbling.

According to the investigative agency, Thanh initially stabbed about 15 times with a knife into victim P and then left. However, after walking about 10 meters, this subject turned back and stabbed Ms P 10 more times, then threw the knife back at the scene and fled.
Thanh was determined to have gone to an apartment building on Nguyen Lam Street (Phuc Dong, Long Bien) to park his motorbike and then ran away. When he ran away, Thanh called the owner of the hair salon where he worked to announce that he had killed Ms.
During the run, Thanh took off his outerwear, threw it in front of the sidewalk of lane 24 Nguyen Lam, and texted the wife of the owner of the hair salon that he had killed Ms. P, saying he would commit suicide.
Answering PV’s question about the hiding process, Thanh said at that time he thought he would commit suicide but failed. Explaining about being too cruel to his former girlfriend, Thanh said that when he came back to buy a knife, he still saw P and the other young man (Mr D, P’s current lover) standing there.
“I asked a few questions, but P still challenged me, I was so inhibited that I took out a knife to stab P” – Thanh replied.
With the injury to D, Thanh said he did not intend to kill D but just to threaten this person. “At that time, I just thought of stabbing P, the other friend intervened, then took a knife and stabbed him in the hand so that he could avoid it so that he wouldn’t interfere anymore” – Thanh said.
