“I hope we can work together from December 10 for more federalism, always defending the interests and resources of Río Negro.”

That was the first public reaction of the elected governor of Río Negro, Alberto Weretilneck, around midnight on Sunday, after the victory of Javier Milei in the presidential runoff this Sunday in Argentina.

The senator and president of Juntos Somos Río Negro had played hard during the campaign in favor of Sergio Massa, ensuring that A victory for Milei would mean the beginning of a “dissolution” process for the country.

He had also forcefully questioned the libertarian’s expressions about bilateral relations with Brazil. “If Milei is elected president, starting December 10 the province will lose its exports and will destroy onion, pear and apple producers. Loss of foreign currency and jobs, destruction of Rio Negro SMEs,” he stated in a tweet last Monday, on the eve of Massa’s visit to Río Negro.

In his message this Sunday, Weretilneck congratulated the elected president and wished him “the greatest success in his administration, for the good of the Argentine people.”

The elected president of Río Negro also highlighted that “40 years after the return of democracy, the Argentine people expressed themselves through the polls, in a totally transparent election.”

Weretilneck’s message arrived almost at midnight, when several Rio Negro politicians had already spoken out about the results of the polls.

The governor, Arabela Carreras, had expressed at 9:40 p.m. that “the popular will must always be respected”, congratulating the president-elect”, and “to the Argentine institutions for conducting the electoral process in an orderly and transparent manner.”
