The sensational series “Don’t Be Born Beautiful” was an adaptation of a Colombian TV project, but analogues were filmed not only in Russia. Two years after the appearance on the Russian screens of Katya Pushkareva, three thousand kilometers from Moscow, her own ugly girl appeared – the Belgian actress Batens Werle.
The Belgian adaptation of the series was called “Sarah” – after the name of the main character Sarah de Rose. The image of an ugly secretary with glasses and braces from Batens Wehrle received the highest praise – for this role she received the Flemish analogue of the Emmy and became the most popular person on television.
The resounding success of transforming an ugly duckling into a beautiful swan did not harm the actress’s career. After “Sarah” she was offered a variety of roles. At home, she is known for the Oscar-nominated drama Open Circle. And in 2013, she played Margaret of Anjou in the mini-series The White Queen.
