What is the difference between juice, syrup and nectar?

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN)–Many people go to the markets to buy juice without noticing what is written on them, or understanding the meaning of each term used. And if you look closely, you will find that there are juices that have nectar, juice, or syrup written on them.

The Gulf Health Council explained, through its official account on the “Instagram” website, that there is a difference between each of them.

  • the juice: It is obtained from fresh fruit.
  • Nectar: It is obtained from the fruit, and may add sugars, honey, and concentrated drinks.
  • the drink: Water, sugar, artificial colours, preservatives, and flavors, and fruit may be at most 10% of these ingredients.

Maximum amount of natural juice allowed for children

  • 1 year – 3 years: 110 mill
  • 4-6 years: 110 – 170 ml
  • 7 years – 18 years: 200 ml

The Gulf Health Council clarified that the natural fruit mixture (smoothies) contain better nutritional value and fiber for health. And fiber can help you feel full.
