A WWDC23 it already has a date to happen and, obviously, we are all anxious about the announcements and releases that await us. Just like we did last year, how about we remember what may be launched by Apple at this event?
As always, it is almost certain that we will see the announcement of the iOS 17do iPadOS 17do macOS 14do watchOS 10 It’s from tvOS 17. But, in addition to them, it is possible that the company launches one or more hardware products in the main keynote of the event.
The big star of the event could be the augmented/virtual reality headset from Apple, but there is a great possibility that other devices will also show up.
Among them are a new 15 inch macbook airthe long-awaited completion of the transition of the entire line of Macs to the Apple Silicon with the launch of a new Mac Pro and, who knows, one o iMac with the “M3” chip.
Let’s remember the main rumors involving these products?
AR/VR headset
Let’s start with it, which is one of the most anticipated releases in the Apple world in recent years — second only, of course, to the “Apple Car”. A strong candidate for “greatest legacy of the Tim Cook era” – so much so that the CEO would be pressuring Apple teams for an “early” launch –, the product would have even been shown to executives.
While it’s not certain that it will be announced at WWDC23, some possible features of it have already been widely aired, such as the inclusion of a CPUCentral processing unitor central processing unit.”>1 and a GPUGraphics processing unitor graphics processing unit.”>2 powerful, at least 3 screens, 15 cameras and an “innovative biometric experience”.
And nothing fairer than announcing a new product category at a Worldwide Developers Conference, as this would also be the perfect event for Apple to present to the world the operating system that will work with the new device, which has as main candidates for names “xrOS” or “realityOS”.
Referencing the acronym “XR”, which is often used to refer to extended reality (extended reality), the new OS should have exclusive versions of Apple applications — such as Messages and the Maps — and also with a kind of App Store own.
MacBook Air de 15″
Another product that may appear for the first time in Apple’s portfolio is a 15″ MacBook Air. Even though the Air line is mainly known for its great portability, Apple’s entry-level MacBook should gain a larger-size variant — which will make life easier for those who want a big screen, but don’t necessarily need or can afford one. It should arrive with the “M3″ processor — the same Apple Silicon entry variant that traditionally equips the 13” MacBook Air —, which will have 8 CPU cores and will be manufactured in a 3 nanometer process.
The big question that still hangs is about the launch date of the future machine. March has already been considered — which, obviously, is no longer possible — as well as April or June, which is when WWDC23 will take place. According to Mark Gurman, however, it is unlikely that it will be released before the start of the second half.
Mac Pro
The only Mac that still does not have a processor manufactured by Apple itself, the Mac Pro should get an update this year, with the long-awaited replacement of Apple chips. Intel by some powerful variant of the M2 processor.
Much has been made about the end of the line with the launch of the Mac Studio last year, but Apple executives have been making it clear that the “whole lineup” of current Macs will be updated.
Recent rumors indicate that it will come equipped with an “M2 Ultra”, although it was previously considered that Apple would launch another variant called “Extreme” – which, according to Gurman, has been abandoned (at least for now).
The processor in the Mac Pro with Apple Silicon will be able to have 24 CPU cores and 76 GPU cores, plus support for up to 192GB of unified memory.
iMac
Finally, let’s talk about another product that hasn’t seen an update in almost two years, the iMac. Still equipped with the M1 processor, the product should be relaunched this year with the “M3” chip — the same one that should be present in the aforementioned 15″ MacBook Air.
Although rumors indicate that the launch of the new iMac will only happen at the end of the year, it may be that Apple surprises us with its arrival in the first half. And it wouldn’t be anything new, given recent surprises like the HomePod’s unexpected relaunch earlier this year.
If we consider the other products on this list, the iMac should be the one that will gain less news compared to the previous generation — not least because it has already gained a substantial redesign in its last release. The notable change, therefore, would really be in charge of the SoC.
