What speaks for the digestif – food & drink

If I ask the waiter at the local bar for the bill following dinner, I get the receipt and a small metal tray served to the table. There are small porcelain vessels filled with either hot plum or cool lychee wine. The content depends on the season, and it’s a ritual practiced over the years that when I switch from plum to lychee, I happily say “Oh, summer is here!” I exclaim and silently comfort myself at the beginning of the cold season that the plum wine at least warms me. My favorite place is – as you might guess from the drinks – a Chinese restaurant.
