This is the least represented major sector of activity in the Principality (1.6% of you total). And one of those who is the least fit. The Monegasque Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies (Imsee) recently published its report on manufacturing industries in Monaco. Focus on a sector that is struggling to maintain itself.

Turnover continues to rise

This is a rather encouraging statistic, although generally disappointing. The turnover of manufacturing industries increased by 12.2% in one year. Either in the same trajectory as last year after experiencing a heavy decline, in 2020, due to the health crisis. Better, it even exceeded the amount of 2019which was €807.9 millioneither an increase of 13.1%. Among the sectors that have experienced greater growth in 2022: manufacture of rubber and plastic products (+16,2%) and the chemical industry (+14,3%).

However, these figures should be put into perspective over the last decade. In ten years, turnover has fallen by 19.2%.

Fewer employers, the number of employees is stable

Other data that confront each other: those of the number of employees and employers. The first is up slightly (+0.8%) while the second, lowest recorded in ten yearsis declining (-6%).

Again, these statistics need to be put into perspective. Over the past ten years, the figures have fallen for both: -2.7% for employers, -19.1% for employees.

Among those living in France, 63.7% live in the Alpes-Maritimes excluding neighboring municipalities and 0.5% outside the Alpes-Maritimes.

A predominantly male sector

As with the temporary work sector, men are the most represented. In 2022we counted 1,678 for 923 women. Or a proportion of 64.5% male. It is the most masculine large business sector (GSA) (61,1% on average).

As for the age of employees, the average is 44,4 ans. Higher than the general population (42,4 ans). has note that a third of employees have between 45 et 54 years and more than half (54%) over 45 ans.

The number

2

On the 184, is the number of establishments that are more than 100 years old in the sector. The average age of establishments in manufacturing industries is more than twice that of all major sectors of activity (GSA) (27 years against 13.1 years). Nearly half are more than twenty years old. It is also the GSA with the lowest rate of entities under 5 years old.
