What were the cars that disappointed their buyers in 2023?

As the year 2023 closes, it’s time to look back and reflect on the automotive launches that made a place for themselves in the market.

While it has been a year of impressive innovations and technological advances, not all models released have met expectations. In this note, we focus on cars that, for various reasons, have been considered disappointing.

From unfulfilled performance promises to shortcomings in quality and design, these vehicles have generated discussion and criticism among experts and consumers alike.

We will analyze what went wrong:

Were they technical problems, marketing mistakes, or simply too high expectations?

This review not only serves as a reminder that even the biggest brands can stumble, but also as a lesson in the importance of constant innovation and responding to consumer needs.

So get ready for a journey through the models that, for one reason or another, were a bit disappointing in 2023:

1. Jeep Compass Latitude

For the most part, bad new cars don’t exist anymore, and that’s true for the 2023 Jeep Compass Latitude. But the barely adequate turbocharged engine, ho-hum cargo space, and top price make it a tough sell. in a market where the zesty Kia Sportage Hybrid and highly capable Honda CR-V exist.

At least its mini Grand Cherokee design gives it some appeal, and the Trailhawk off-road model could appeal to weekend warriors.

2. Cadillac XT4 Sport

Aside from its attractive styling, there’s no good reason to choose the Cadillac XT4 over the BMW X3, Genesis GV70, and Lexus NX. The turbo engine is loud, the cabin is cramped and the switches and screens are almost identical to those of a commoner Chevrolet Blazer.

In a vacuum, the Cadillac XT4 is fine, but unless your dealer is giving you a killer deal, either go for another luxury SUV or save your money and get a loaded Chevy.

3. Alfa Romeo Tonale eAWD

Stellantis has had some hits and some misses in my book this year, as you’ll see, with this pretty Tonale not quite hitting the spot.

The plug-in hybrid variant of the Tonale is useful when charged, but when the small battery pack runs out, you’re left with a rather heavy and slightly slow little crossover that’s not even on par with its low-end twin with the new Dodge badge.

4. Chrysler 300C

There’s no doubt you can still have a good time driving the old 300, with the occasional puff if you’re feeling like a frog.

And yet, even brand new, it looks like a used car in 2023 (heck, it looked pretty old a decade ago). Smooth handling and a characterful engine are nice, but for the price of a new car, many don’t want to drive some kind of history class.

5. BMW X1

The little BMW doesn’t excel in any key areas; It’s not very comfortable, it’s not very attractive, nor is it that good to drive. And when you get down to the details, it gets expensive. Although its $40,095 is at the low end of the segment, the price skyrockets quickly when options are added.
