What you can do in Vienna during the week

You can experience a lot in Vienna. Because you can lose track of the extensive range of recommended events that take place every day in Vienna, we have collected our favorite program items for you during the week. These are the coolest things you can do in the federal capital from Monday to Wednesday.

Flower Monday at Café Stadtbahn

On Monday, January 30, 2023, is not just any Monday, but the last Monday of the month. This means that the reading series Blumenmontag will take place again in the Café Stadtbahn! This time the guests are Evelyn Bubich, Ekaterina Heider and Mariter Vicky, Katja Gasser and Kerosin95. Reading begins at 8:15 p.m.

Spinning im Club

We’ve already introduced you to workouts that almost feel like a night at the club. The spinning provider SuperCycle is now taking this to the next level: From Sunday 29 January to Thursday 2 February 2023, he moves the studio to the Club Praterstrasse for a pop-up. Sport has never felt more like a party, especially when the coaches crank up their techno playlists. You pay 20 euros per unit, the shoes for the bikes are included in the price.

Future Lab im Schubert Theater

What does the future of theater look like? The Burgtheater is probably not the only one dealing with this question – but also, in a completely different way, the Schubert Theater in the 9th district. As part of the Future Lab event series in February, experts and artists will take a close look at projects and best practice examples and discuss, for example, AI concepts, real-time art or 3D mapping. The program presentation kicks things off Wednesday February 1, 2023 by 18 clock. At 7 p.m., the first Future Talk on “Art & Culture as a Human Right & Common Good in the Digital Age” will follow. Admission is free!

Open Loft

Are you drawn to the stage yourself? Then look at Wednesday February 1, 2023, in the loft over. The Open Loft takes place there from 7 p.m. in the living room: you can dance, sing, present stand-up comedy or your own writing – there are no limits to art. Except for time limits: You have ten minutes (or two songs) for your performance, one of the acts gets 20 minutes. Register in advance by email or on site – the first-come-first-served principle applies.

Bicycle flea market in WUK

Another date for Wednesday: January is over, which means the bicycle flea market at WUK is starting again! At the February 1st 2023 and then always on the first Wednesday of the month you can buy used bikes or sell your own. From 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. you will find the flea market in the inner courtyard of the WUK. All information about buying and selling can be found on the website.

Exhibition: Ernst Haas – The Art of Seeing

Many of you are probably familiar with the western light from the annual World Press Photo exhibition. But the “showplace for photography” also offers many great shows. If you haven’t seen the current one, namely “The Art of Seeing” with photos by Ernst Haas, you should use the last opening days. Until February 12, 2023 you always have the opportunity from Tuesday to Sunday. Ernst Haas, born in Vienna in 1921, was an important photojournalist and photographed Vienna in the post-war period and New York and other American locations after emigrating to the USA.

Exhibition: Yuriy Marmeladov – “Children of the Capital”

And we would like to recommend one more exhibition: the Ukrainian urban explorer and photographer Yuriy Marmeladov has been photographing the subculture of urban exploration in Kyiv for the past six years. Since the war of aggression by Russia, it has been quiet in and around the Urb-Ex community in Ukraine. The Oxymoron Gallery in the 6th District shows until February 11, 2023 selected photographs that show the artist’s subjective perception of the scene. The gallery is open from Wednesday to Saturday.

Sniff chestnut baos at Ukiyo

Of course, you can also sweeten your week with a few snacks: How about, for example, homemade chestnut baos with chestnut cream filling? You can still get it until the end of January at the Ukiyo Café and Bistro in the 4th district. But you can also treat yourself to breakfast all day or try whole grain baos with different fillings. Note: Monday is always a day off. Where else there are Bao Buns in Vienna, we will tell you in a separate article.
