Just over a week after starting the new year, television networks face January prepared with their best artillery to deploy it in the coveted ‘prime time’ and thus stand up to the ‘streaming’ platforms. New releases and returns of star formats to entertain in a first quarter in which television consumption is expected to skyrocket due to the restrictions of the pandemic and the snow and cold storm. And where a fierce battle for audience leadership will also be unleashed, just when Antena 3 shortens distances with Telecinco.
La 1: Humor with Dani Rovira and new series
2021 begins for La 1 de TVE with a new set for the jewel of the public channel, the ‘Telediarios’, where no changes are expected between the faces of the news. For primetime, the channel is preparing the return to television of the actor Dani Rovira, who will present ‘La noche D’, an interview format in which there will also be humor and where the man from Malaga will be accompanied by well-known collaborators, such as Antonio Resines, Pepe Viyuela or Cristina Medina.
The Spanish adaptation of ‘The Greatest Dancer’, created by Simon Cowell, and a new program entitled ‘Two couples and a destination’ will also arrive on TVE, in which two teams will meet, one formed by Anne Igartiburu and María del Monte , and another with Florentino Fernández and Gonzalo Miró, who will travel across the country to meet a surprise guest.
In addition, La 1 will bet on new editions of ‘Sewing Masters’, ‘Prodigios’ and ‘MasterChef’, whose casting closed with more than 70,000 registered.
In the field of fiction, ‘Tell me how it happened’ returns (Thursday at 10:10 p.m.), with a time jump to 2020 to portray the health crisis. In addition, two new productions are released: ‘The hunting. Tramuntana ‘(Wednesday) and the daily series’ Two lives’, set in present-day Spain and in the Spanish colony of Guinea in the 1950s.
La 2: New premieres of cultural programs
After its success on New Year’s Eve, ‘Cachitos de hierro y cromo’ returns to La 2 this Monday with its ninth season, in a night dedicated to music that will complete ‘A country to listen to it’ by Ariel Rot.
The second channel of TVE has also premiered other spaces, such as ‘El condensador de fluzo’, with Juan Gómez-Jurado, ‘Jardines con historia’, ‘América Wild’ and ‘Rescate’.
Antena 3: Contests and challenges for celebrities
The most imminent premiere in entertainment format will be ‘The Challenge’, the new contest presented by Roberto Leal (‘Pasapalabra’) in which eight celebrities must submit to challenges and be evaluated by a jury made up of Tamara Falcó, Santiago Segura and Juan del Val.
The mythical ‘Who wants to be a millionaire?’ He also returns, once again, with Juanra Bonet, with special programs in which popular characters will participate, and ‘La voz kids’ is preparing a new edition.
In addition, Antena 3 will adapt the South Korean format ‘I see how you sing’, which will be hosted by Manel Fuentes, and will openly premiere the series’ El nudo ‘, starring Cristina Plazas and Natalia Verbeke, among others, while the Turkish serials continue to broadcast’ Woman ‘and’ My daughter ‘.
Telecinco: ‘Reality’ and ‘talent show’, the channel’s formula
Mediaset’s main channel is committed to the continuity of its consolidated formats for the first months of the year. Telecinco will shortly start the third season of ‘The island of temptations’, one of the revelation programs of 2020, and will also launch the sixth edition of ‘Got Talent’, in which Risto Mejide, Edurne, Dani Martínez and Paz Padilla repeat on the jury.
The chain will also offer a new installment of ‘Come to dinner with me: gourmet edition’, with Terelu Campos, Gianmarco Onestini, Yurena, Sofía Suescun, José Antonio Áviles, María Jesús Ruiz, Jorge Sanz and Ana María Aldón as hosts and guests. Finally, Telecinco plans to premiere the second season of the series ‘El pueblo’.
Cuatro y La Sexta: No big news
Few news in Cuatro. The chain is preparing the returns of ‘Volando voy’, ‘Planeta Calleja’, ‘Viajeros Cuatro’ and ‘First Dates: Crucero’, and will offer the new chapters of the American fiction ‘The Good Doctor’.
In the same vein is La Sexta, which will once again leave ‘prime time’ to current affairs and reports such as ‘Salvados’, ‘Lo de Évole’, ‘La sexta noche’ or ‘La sixth column’.
