RIOgaleão, concessionaire of the International Airport of Rio de Janeiro, is investing close to BRL 2.4 billion in the airport, attracting companies and airlines, generating jobs and expanding connections between Rio and the main destinations in the world.
One of the novelties for 2023 is the start of United Airlines operations at the airport. In July last year, RIOgaleão announced a partnership with the second largest airline in the world, which will take over, for 17 years, the new aircraft maintenance center at Tom Jobim International Airport. The arrival of the American company will leverage the use of a cutting-edge infrastructure that already exists in the terminal, a hangar with more than 60 thousand m² of total area, which will contribute to the development of the airline industry in Rio.
Another major project to be inaugurated later this year is a high-end logistics warehouse (AAA) in partnership with Hire Capital, a specialist in real estate investments. The space had an investment of R$ 50 million, will have eight modules with 40 docks and is expected to generate 1800 direct and indirect jobs. The development will join other existing real estate projects at the airport’s cargo terminal, in addition to the domestic airlines’ cargo warehouses and the import and export warehouses.
RIOgaleão closes 2023 with the launch of yet another commercial development of 18,000 m², in partnership with Technion: Aldeia Bay Mall.
In January of this year, RIOgaleão recorded a 71% recovery in the number of flights to international destinations.
In the same period, Aerolíneas Argentinas, which already operates the Rio – Buenos Aires route, expanded its operations at Tom Jobim International Airport, including the cities of Córdoba and Mendoza.
Newly arrived in Rio de Janeiro, JetSmart, a Chilean low cost airline, starts a third route on the RIOgaleão, now to Montevideo, Uruguay. Operations should start on March 27, with three weekly flights. In December 2022, the company inaugurated flights connecting Rio de Janeiro to the cities of Santiago, Chile, and Buenos Aires, Argentina.
As of October, the Italian company ITA Airways will start flying daily between the airports of Fiumicino, in Rome, and Aeroporto. The return of the Rio-Rome flight comes almost two years after Alitalia ended operations on the route amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
