WhatsApp Introduces Username and PIN for Greater Privacy

WhatsAppthe world’s most used instant messaging app, owned by tech giant Meta, is about to introduce two new features: theusername and the PIN.

But what will these innovations be used for? The aim is improve user privacy. Just like on Telegram, it will be possible to register on WhatsApp with a username associated with your account, avoiding having to share your phone number. This feature will be particularly useful for those who use the phone for work, for online sales or for occasional contacts, such as organizing a trip or an appointment, without having to reveal your personal number.

This way, users will be able to choose who to contact, reducing the risk of spam and unwanted or potentially dangerous conversations.

Furthermore, to further increase safety, a four or six digit PIN codeassociated with the username. This PIN must be shared with anyone who wants to start a conversation with the user, providing an additional level of protection.

When will these features be available? WhatsApp developers are currently testing them, and they may already be available in next app updates.
