WhatsApp tests option to disable link preview in chats

With the beta version of number 24.7.10.70 for iOS, the WhatsApp is testing a new feature: the option to disable link preview when sending messages that contain URLs. The idea is to offer users another layer of control over privacy when sending messages that contain links.

The new feature will be located in the advanced options area of privacy settings (Settings » Privacy » Advanced settings) of the application. When activating it, the messenger will not automatically generate a preview of websites referring to links included in sent messages. The feature helps with user security, as it protects the IP address from being inferred by websites.

It is worth noting that, when activating the option, the preview will only be deactivated when you are sending a message with a link. When receiving messages with URLs, it is still possible for the preview to be displayed, depending on the settings of the sender.

The feature was only seen in beta versions of WhatsApp. It is not known when (or if) exactly it will be implemented for all messenger users. It is also possible that the function will be modified before reaching the general public.
