Sources specialized in WhatsApp At the beginning of December, they discovered something new that could be launched in the coming months for the Meta messenger. The resource in question is the possibility of creating a username — just like on Telegram and rival platforms — allowing you to find people even without adding their phone number.

The function was found by beta testers in version 2.23.25.19 of the Android application, but without any mention of the release date and compatible platforms. Despite the developer’s mystery about the feature, new evidence suggests that the functionality may soon arrive for users of both the mobile and Web versions of WhatsApp.

According to information from WABetaInfo, the option to create the username was found on WhatsApp Web suggesting that the company may release in the stable version in the near future. The first look at this new feature took place in May this year and, since then, it has been appearing more often in experimental builds of the application.

The ability to share your username instead of your phone number should significantly increase the privacy and security of the community, especially for those who use their personal accounts to conduct business.
