Be careful if you have a rather “old” smartphone: you may soon no longer be able to use WhatsApp. The instant messaging app will indeed stop working on multiple phones from September 1, 2023, reports The Parisian Tuesday August 29, 2023.

Developers want to focus on the most recent versions of operating systems. “To keep pace with the latest technological advancements, we regularly stop supporting older operating systems and devote our resources to supporting the latest systems”thus explains WhatsApp on they are blog.

Bugs for a few months

From September 1, all smartphones running Android 4.0.1 (or earlier) and iOS 12 (or earlier) will therefore no longer have Meta’s instant messaging. This concerns a hundred models, including Samsung (Galaxy Trend Lite, Galaxy S3 Mini), Huawei (including several from the Ascend range) or even iPhone (SE, 6S), LG and Sony.

Users with one of these smartphones have already noticed bugs and issues when using WhatsApp in recent months, notes The Parisian. For people with newer phones, no changes are to be expected. The courier still recommends that each person regularly update the application as well as the operating system of the smartphone.
