Wheat Allergy: Student dies after eating Porotta

Churuthoni ∙ A student who was allergic to wheat died due to infection following eating porota.

Siju’s daughter Nayan Maria (16) died in Veliyathumari, Thannikandam, Idukki. Vazhathop is a Plus One student of St. George Higher Secondary School.

Relatives say that Nayan was under treatment for a long time for severe allergy to wheat products. As the health condition improved, he was given a small amount of wheat food as per the doctor’s instructions. However, on Thursday evening, he collapsed following eating porota.

Doctors said the cause of death was severe allergic reaction to a protein component in wheat. Funeral today at 2 o’clock at St. George’s Cathedral Church, Banana Grove. Mother: Lynsey. Brother: Naveen.
