The sudden suspension brought an abrupt halt to a tenure that began in 2011, when Thornton stepped into the booth following the death of longtime announcer Charlie O’Donnell, who had been with the show from 1975 to 1980 and 1989 to 2010. While the studio has kept specific details regarding the investigation under wraps, executives issued a concise statement outlining the administrative action.

According to TMZ, an airline passenger complained to a flight attendant about Thornton while he was on a commercial flight back in May.
