When parenthood and work don’t mix

On Wednesday March 1, the National Council examines a project aimed at granting 770 million francs per year to extra-family childcare facilities. Lack of places in crèches, shortage of manpower, different approaches on both sides of the Sarine… Le Temps takes stock of an infernal equation.

Two. This is the number of years for which Nora and her companion have been eagerly awaiting a place in a crèche for their daughter. After having moved from one bank to the other, the couple from Geneva has the feeling of having been strolled. “The early childhood services had assured us that there was a follow-up to our file, when we arrived in Chêne-Bougeries, we learned that it was not so,” laments the mother. Result: it was necessary to start the process from scratch, but despite the three nurseries present in the sector, their daughter is stagnating on the waiting lists. The couple must then resign themselves and call on a nanny. “I made arrangements with a friend who also has her daughter looked after, which allows us to split the costs in half.”
