Virologist Burtseva: influenza epidemic in Russia will begin in late November – early December

This was stated in an interview with URA.RU by the head of the laboratory of etiology and epidemiology of influenza at the Institute of Virology named after Ivanovsky Federal State Budgetary Institution Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology, Doctor of Medical Sciences Elena Burtseva.
“For now, there is no need to be afraid, because the flu has a seasonality, which usually occurs at the end of November, December and the first months of the next year. This is every year. It has its own seasonality, so September, October and almost November are most often free from influenza,” said Elena Burtseva.
The doctor of medical sciences noted that virologists know what types of influenza virus will spread, so vaccination will be an effective method of prevention. “We know that there are four, but mostly three influenza viruses are always active, almost throughout the entire epidemic season. We do not have any single flu virus. Especially if we talk about all the countries of the world. There are three influenza viruses circulating – two A and one B. Depending on the countries, one or the other is dominant. There is nothing to be afraid of, because all vaccines contain three viruses that we assume that they will circulate in the coming season, ”she emphasized.
Earlier, endocrinologist, nutritionist, nutritionist Alexei Kalinchev said in a conversation with URA.RU that onion phytoncides cannot kill influenza and SARS viruses.
