“When to Eat for Maximum Weight Loss: The Science Behind Meal Timing”

Many people would like to lose weight without lifting a finger. A study published in The American Journal of Nutrition and relayed by site of Daily mail, reveals when to eat to burn the most calories. It would seem, according to scientists, that monitoring your diet is not enough, and that you also have to pay particular attention to when you eat.

A matter of metabolism?

The food we eat has a huge impact on our body and our overall health. But experts say many of us don’t think about when we eat our meals. While some of us may eat extremely healthy, research shows that we risk ruining all of that effort if we eat too late in the day or wait too long between meals.

Our metabolism is affected by our circadian rhythm (ie our biological clock). For some, the biological clock follows the night-day norm. But for others who work night shifts or burn candles at both ends, it’s not that simple. Researchers conducted a study showing how meal times affect weight gain, depending on when you get up and when you go to bed.

What times do scientists eat?

The research team looked at the participants’ body fat, body mass index and meal intake. ” We found that the timing of food intake in relation to the onset of melatonin (a marker of a person’s biological night) is associated with a higher percentage of body fat and BMI, not associated with time of day, quantity or composition of food intake.“, said the Dr Andrew W. McHill, who conducted the study. ” These results suggest that when you consume calories, relative to your own biological rhythm, may be more important than the actual time of day.“. Here are the times at which we should eat according to our metabolism and our pace of life:

  • For a person who goes to bed at 11 p.m. and gets up at 7 a.m.:

Breakfast: 8 a.m.

Lunch: 12 p.m.

Dinner: not after 8 p.m.

Snack: between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.

  • For a person who goes to bed at 2 a.m. and gets up at 10 a.m.:

Breakfast: 11 a.m.

Lunch: 3 p.m.

Dinner: not after 10 p.m.

Snack : entre 18h et 19h

  • For a person who goes to bed at 4 a.m. and gets up at 12 p.m.:

Breakfast: 1 p.m.

Lunch: 5 p.m.

Dinner: not after 1 a.m.

Snack: between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m.
