The White Sox and Red Sox completed a trade Monday that will send left-handed reliever Jake Diekman to Chicago and catcher Reese McGuire plus a player to be named to Boston.
Diekman, 35, who has a 4.23 ERA in 44 games this season, has a two-year contract that expires in 2023 and includes a $4 million club option for 2024. McGuire, 27, is hitting for .225/.261/.285 this year and is under club control through 2025.
Diekman has limited opponents to a .203 average in 2022, including .188 with zero home runs allowed once morest lefties.
