WHO announces discovery of unexpected hepatitis outbreak

CHILDREN

The world is facing a mysterious outbreak of hepatitis discovered in children. Eight more countries have reported cases of mystery hepatitis in children, adding to the 12 previously affected countries, according to the World Health Organization.

While most cases have been discovered in Europe, the Americas, the Western Pacific and Southeast Asia have not been spared by this surprising hepatitis epidemic.

A total of 20 countries are concerned with 228 children suffering from an unusual form of liver disease and 50 other suspected cases are under investigation. ” As of May 1, at least 228 probable cases have been reported to WHO from 20 countries, and more than 50 additional cases are under investigation,”WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic told reporters in Geneva on Tuesday.

For now, scientists are confused by this wave of cases that do not come from the normal viruses that cause hepatitis. Studies are underway to elucidate the origin of this virus in order to provide the appropriate remedy.
