A user can become rich in just one click, but no one knows who this lucky winner really is, for a very simple reason…

It turns 2,500 into almost 14 million euros

In the world of cryptocurrencies, sometimes wallets that have been inactive for many years suddenly wake up to make large transactions. These addresses usually hold abundant sums of cryptocurrency since their owner invested from the beginning.

This is likely the case with an Ethereum wallet that resurfaced recently. This had been filled in by its owner during the ICO (initial coin offering) of Ethereum in 2015. In short, an ICO is the first release of the crypto before the project is launched.

At the time, the mysterious owner of this address had bought no less than 8,000 ETH while each ether was worth only 31 cents, i.e. an initial investment of around $2,500.

After eight years without any activity, the anonymous owner of this wallet decided to wake up on May 27 and quickly transferred all of his funds to a new address.. It started cautiously with a transfer of only 1 ETH, then the remaining 7,999 were sent to the same address in stride.

As a reminder, on the cryptocurrency network, more commonly known as the blockchain, a register of all transactions since the existence of the network is accessible to everyone. Thus, like other major transactions, this transfer was obviously noticed by the blockchain analysis company Lookonchain, which raised questions in the crypto community…

And for good reason, at the time of writing this article, no one knows the identity of the holder of the 8,000 ETH in the wallet, which today is worth around 13.7 million euros, a gain of 590,000%.

Why such a transfer 8 years later?

The exact reasons that lead the holders of these “prehistoric” wallets to wake up their funds after such a long period of time often remain unknown. This phenomenon raises questions about the future use of the funds…

Although not always accompanied by a massive sell-off, these moves are subject to speculation by the cryptosphere. If the sale of such an amount were to take place at once, then the price of the crypto would necessarily be affected downwards. because of the importance of the order.

This scenario cannot be ruled out but some suggest that this kind of transfer is often the reason for a recent hack. It is difficult to conceive that a normally constituted human being would not want to sell a single one of his cryptos when these went from a few cents to just under €2,000 per unit today.

In the case of the previously mentioned portfolio, the transferred funds were also not sent to a cryptocurrency exchange, which suggests that the owner is not necessarily planning a sale.

This crypto address is not the only one to wake up after a long period of inactivity. Other similar cases have been observed from time to time. Whether out of forgetfulness, the desire to sell, or other motivations, these mysterious addresses continue to fuel discussions in the crypto community.
