Why home insurance always costs more

2023-08-05 08:47:36

Bad news for individuals: home insurance saw its prices increase in mid-year.

This is a recent study byAssurland.com which reveals this increase due to the significant loss experience in 2022. According to the web comparator, “while the trend was +3 to +3.5% on average on the price of contracts at the start of the year, it reached + 5% at the end of May under the combined effects of the increase in burglaries (+11%) and the historical bill for climatic claims (10 billion euros)”.

In detail, Brittany suffered the most significant increase since it showed a +10.68% tariff increase, which did not prevent it from maintaining its status as the least expensive region in this area since home insurance €189 is billed there annually, whereas the French average is now €227 (compared to €216 in 2022).

As for Occitania, it becomes the most expensive region with an average cost of €251 per year for this insurance protection.

More broadly, this increase is part of a growing trend for a decade since, as Assurland reminds us, the cost of home insurance rose by 38% between 2010 and 2022.

For Olivier Moustacakis, co-founder of Assurland.com, “it is necessary to accentuate efforts in terms of prevention, which will make it possible to contain the rise in prices in the future”.
