Why Jesse Ylonen is Struggling in Montreal: Expert Analysis

2024-04-02 00:33:36

With a slim haul of four goals and four assists in 55 games so far this season, Canadiens forward Jesse Ylonen hasn’t really taken his chances during his first full campaign with the team.

Often confined to the fourth line with players of limited talent, but not very effective when placed in better conditions, the 24-year-old skater has not convinced anyone. He’s played a little better in recent games, but is that enough to turn things around?

“It doesn’t mean anything, for me, Jesse Ylonen, the evaluation is done, no matter what he is going to do,” commented former CH Guillaume Latendresse on Monday to “JiC”.

“He’s not a regular player in the National League, in my book,” he then said. We gave him opportunities, chances, he never really managed to take the chair.

At his side, his eternal sidekick Maxim Lapierre quite agreed.

Ylonen is “talented, but not enough to be dominant on one of the first two lines,” he lamented.

“Not dedicated enough to the task, in a way, even if he’s a guy who still works well,” he then illustrated.

“There’s no chair for him.”
