Widespread ATM fraud in Kochi; Lakhs lost

Kochi | Widespread ATM robbery in the city. Lakhs were stolen from 11 ATMs of South Indian Bank at various locations. 25000 was stolen from an ATM in Kalamassery on 16th and 19th only. The fraud took place at ATMs in Thripunithura and Palarivattam. The fraud was done by closing the part where the money comes from the machine.

This is what the police say regarding it. The thief closes the part where the money comes out of the ATM. When customers arrive and withdraw money, the amount does not come out. As soon as the customer returns following waiting for a long time, the thief enters the ATM and withdraws the money from the place where it was stuck. The police have released the CCTV footage of the thief stealing money from the ATM.

In the past few days, many parts of the city have been complaining of non-receipt of cash from ATMs. At first it was thought that the machine was faulty. Then the bank officials realized that fraud was taking place and reported it to the police. The bank authorities have not given any assurance that those who have lost money in this way will get their money back.
