Nirmeen Noufl, 55, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the NSW Supreme Court on Wednesday after prosecutors dropped a murder charge. She admitted to stabbing her husband, 62-year-old Mamdouh Noufl, during a violent altercation at their Greenacre home in May 2023, before disposing of his remains in garbage bags across western Sydney.
A Marriage Marred by Control and Domestic Violence
The 32-year marriage between Nirmeen and Mamdouh Noufl was defined by chronic conflict, according to agreed facts tendered in the NSW Supreme Court. Court documents describe a domestic environment shaped by reported infidelity and domestic abuse. Mamdouh Noufl held conservative Islamic views and exerted strict control over his wife, who spent years receiving medical treatment for depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Just before his death at their Greenacre home, Mamdouh Noufl informed his wife that he intended to marry a woman he had met years earlier in Egypt, while refusing Nirmeen Noufl’s explicit request for a divorce. On the exact day he was killed, he signed over power of attorney to his wife—a legal step described in court filings as a routine measure to help manage their shared overseas interests.

The Fatal Altercation and Disposal of Remains
When Mamdouh Noufl returned to the house later that afternoon, an argument erupted into physical violence. According to statements Nirmeen Noufl later provided to psychiatrists, her husband attacked her, choking her and pinning her to the floor. Feeling that her life was in imminent danger, she grabbed a nearby tool and fatally stabbed him once in the chest.
Over the subsequent 48 hours, the court documents state that Noufl dismembered her husband’s body using kitchen knives and an electric drop saw. She placed the remains into up to 30 garbage bags, which she then discarded in residential and industrial bins across various suburbs in western Sydney. Despite extensive police searches, Mamdouh Noufl’s remains have never been recovered.
When initially confronted by a witness the day after the killing, Noufl displayed visible injuries, including a cut on her face, a swollen visage, and a bleeding lip. When asked by a confidante why she had taken his life, she expressed profound psychological distress.

Concealment, Psychiatric Ward Admission, and Arrest
Following the killing, Noufl maintained a facade for her husband’s family, telling relatives that he was simply too embarrassed and ashamed about his extramarital affair to speak to anyone. It took two months before Mamdouh Noufl was officially reported missing. When approached by police during the initial missing person investigation, Noufl denied any knowledge of his disappearance.
The deception unraveled more than a year later. Days before her eventual arrest by New South Wales Police, Noufl admitted herself to the acute mental health ward at Bankstown Hospital. She was arrested in October 2024 and formally charged with domestic violence murder.
Plea Change and Upcoming Sentencing
Noufl was scheduled to stand trial before a NSW Supreme Court jury this week, having previously maintained a not-guilty plea to murder. However, the trial proceedings were delayed at the last moment on Wednesday when prosecutors conceded they could no longer disprove her version of events and accepted a plea to the lesser charge of manslaughter.
Appearing via an audio-visual link from a custody cell with a blank expression, Noufl formally entered her plea.
A sentence hearing has been scheduled for September 14, where Noufl is expected to appear in person before the NSW Supreme Court.
