Wildfires in Quebec City: The Latest Updates and Emergency Response Efforts

2023-06-03 01:19:03

About 10,000 residents of Quebec City, Canada, were forced to evacuate their homes on Friday following wildfires ravaged more of Canada’s provinces, marking one of the worst starts to the wildfire season.

Quebec’s mayor declared a state of emergency in the city as the threat of wildfires prompted evacuation orders for the area.

Quebec Public Security Minister François Bonardelle said he had reached out to the federal government to ask for the army’s help.

The Canadian Armed Forces have been deployed to the west of the country since early May and troops were sent to Nova Scotia on Thursday.

Aid also came from the United States, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, and more aid is expected next week.
