“Will kill a relative”: drug gang threatens soccer world champions

Soccer world champion Angel di Maria and his family have found themselves in the crosshairs of a drug gang. According to media reports, his relatives, who live in a suburb of the Argentine city of Rosario, have received a death threat.

“Tell your son Angel not to come back to Rosario because otherwise we will kill a family member,” the threatening message read.

“Not even Pullaro will be able to save you,” said the regional chairman Maximiliano Pullaro. “We don’t leave paper notes. We leave bullets and dead people.”

Angel di Maria currently plays for Benfica Lisbon. The 36-year-old had recently expressed plans to end his career at his youth club Rosario, where Lionel Messi also comes from.

On Tuesday, Di Maria plays a friendly international match with Argentina against Costa Rica. “Di Maria knows that he has our full support, whatever he needs. The most important thing is that he plays, that will distract him,” Argentina team boss Lionel Scaloni was quoted as saying.
