Will not play football against Russia; Czech Republic with Poland and Sweden

The Czech Republic has ruled out playing a World Cup qualifier against Russia. After Poland and Sweden, the Czech Republic took a similar stance. The Executive Committee announced that the Czech Soccer Committee had unanimously decided not to play against Russia under any circumstances.

Poland have announced they will not play in a World Cup qualifier play-off on March 24 in Moscow, Russia. The information was made clear by the Polish Football Association itself. Polish FAA chief Cesare Kulesa has said that the Polish national team does not intend to play in the play-offs against Russia because of Russia’s attack on Ukraine. “This is the right decision,” he said.

Poland’s superstar and captain Robert Lewandowski has spoken out in support of the Polish Football Association’s decision. Lewandowski tweeted that this was the right decision and that nothing could be further from the truth.

The world is united in its defense of Russia, including the imposition of EU sanctions on Ukraine. The sports sector also came out with tough action against Russia. The UEFA Champions League final in St. Petersburg, Russia has been moved to Paris, France. Later, Formula One officials announced that the Russian Grand Prix had been canceled.
