Will Xbox be present at Gamescom 2023 after Sony leaves?

Gamescom is Europe’s largest video game trade show. Held in Cologne, Germany, it offers thousands of people the opportunity to test and play games. Unlike the defunct E3, Gamescom emphasizes the ability for users to try out games that are in development, although of course there is room for new announcements.

It is true that the show has been losing momentum for years. Don’t get me wrong, going there is a pleasure, my colleague Adrián escapes there as soon as he can, but the days of loud announcements that lift the audience are long gone.

Xbox has not confirmed its presence, we have to wait…

This year is not looking any better, there are already several publishers who have withdrawn, the latest being Sony, which was perhaps one of the biggest contributors to the show. It would be the second year in a row that they would not be present. What is strange is that at this time of the year, few companies have confirmed their presence.

For now, only two industry players are fixed, Nintendo and Team 17, who confirmed their presence a few days ago. To date, there is no official list indicating which publishers or developers will be present. Not even a provisional list. It is still strange that there is so little information.

Xbox hasn’t confirmed its existence either, although in recent years it’s been almost witnessing it could be a good time to bet on fair again like they did in 2015 bringing their three star games from this year. I remember they even showed a demo of the Crackdown 3 physics exclusively for the event. There was also Quantum Break. Maybe after the Xbox Games Showcase 2023 they will confirm something, that they didn’t do it right away so as not to overshadow their own event makes sense.

This year’s Gamescom kicks off with Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 22, with the rest of the day taking place between August 23-27.
