The Moment 3 update is available for everyone. Eyes are now on the sequel known as Windows 11 23H2.
Microsoft plans to release this feature update this year in the second half of the year. Do not expect a major known. It will bring some improvements and novelties but nothing revolutionary. For what ? Explanations.
Windows 11 and “Moment” updates
The arrival of Windows 11 was accompanied by changes concerning developments and updates. At the time, the firm indicated that only one feature update would be offered per year.
Since then we have seen other small adjustments in particular with the arrival of the “Moment” updates. They have allowed the giant to offer new products outside of this major annual meeting. Microsoft has already released three of these updates through Moment 1, 2 and recently Moment 3 . All these improvements and new features are offered in a faster way tending to reduce the importance of feature updates.
Suddenly Windows 11 23H2 will come in the form of an “activation pack”. This solution is known since it has already been used several times under Windows 10. Note that for this version of Windows, the future is dark. The OS will no longer receive feature updates until it dies. It is scheduled for October 2025 through the end of its maintenance.
Microsoft employee Jason Leznek confirmed that Windows 11 23H2 will be offered in the fourth quarter of this year. Administrators will then be able to deploy the new update through various distribution channels. We can cite Windows Server Update Services, Windows Update for Business or Windows Autopatch.
On our side (consumer), the update will be deployed through the Windows Update service. It is possible that in a first phase it will be offered on an optional basis. In this case, its download and installation will not be automatic. You will have to intervene manually in Windows Update.
One of the unanswered questions concerns the future of Windows 11. With Windows 12 rumored for 2024, will Windows 11 continue to evolve or will it suffer the same fate as Windows 10?
