Microsoft is evolving Windows 11 as an operating system while making improvements to its native apps. Recently the Camera software included with Windows 11 has been the target of a major update.
The deployed improvement pack brings a reworked user interface to align with the design charter of the OS. In parallel the application supports the reading of QR codes and barcodes. It is therefore recommended to update it as soon as possible to take advantage of these latest refinements.
The release note says
The Camera app has been updated to match the new look of Windows 11. In addition to existing support for camera, video, document, and whiteboard capture modes, we’re excited to introduce also scanning QR codes and barcodes.
Windows 11, evolution of Camera but not only
Microsoft explains that users signed up to the DEV channel of the Windows Insider program get some Movies & TV tweaks that ship with the operating system. More precisely, the application evolves in version 10.22061. One of the highlights is native ARM64 support. We also have support for local video playback to migrate to Media Player.
In detail the firm explains
- Native Arm64 support : We have improved the Movies & TV experience on Arm64 devices. You will see faster and better performance when using the app.
- Migration from local video playback to Media Player : We are migrating video file type associations from Movies & TV to Media Player. This migration will only impact file types already associated with Movies & TV and only after opening Movies & TV for the first time.
All of these enhancements are only available through the Windows Insider Program. We have no information on a possible release schedule for the General Public.
