In recent days, an optional Windows 11 update has been getting a lot of attention. Named KB5030310, it offers several important related new features such as the Copilot assistant and the new file explorer. Unfortunately everything is not perfect because installation problems have arisen.

One of the often cited failures concerns the most used application of the operating system, File Explorer. The new version seems to suffer from performance issues. The situation is annoying because the firm mentions KB5030310 as an update improving the Windows 11 v22H2 experience. We must therefore remain cautious regarding this problematic situation.

Feedback mentions issues with the taskbar ranging from rendering issues to a search box that doesn’t work. An user explain

I installed update KB5030310 and rebooted after installation as required. Now the search box just flashes when I click on it. As a temporary solution, I changed it to the “Search” icon and label. If I set it to ‘icon only’ it shows a magnifying glass. However, when I reselect “search box” there remains a magnifying glass icon.

Microsoft would be informed of this bug.

The Copilot assistant would also be affected by problems. Microsoft has so far recognized two concerns. The first hits the Narrator. Several failures are put forward as problems reading certain buttons of the assistant including the “delete an image” button or a silent mode when reading the names of specific dialogues or buttons linked to certain skills. Likewise, adding an image to the chat input area does not trigger any announcements from the Narrator.

For its part, the WallpaperEngine application would encounter difficulties affecting the desktop background. In some cases the definition may be modified forcing the software to adjust accordingly, which may block it on certain systems.

Application crashes, Slow performance issues, Excessive use of system RAM, Reduced size of quick access icons, The sorting option no longer works or works incorrectly. The files appear to be poorly organized, with older OneDrive files with timestamps close to the time the KB5030310 update was installed. The “Sort” drop-down menu becomes unresponsive, disabling the ability to sort OneDrive files by their modification dates.

Some feedback mentions black screens, PC crashes and a display that is limited to the mouse cursor. One of the advanced solutions involves restarting the PC. KB5030310 also seems to pose a problem with AMD’s Software Adrenalin 23.9.3 drivers. So far no solution has been found. Removing the drivers and resetting the BIOS proved unsuccessful.
