Windows 11 and the Moment 2 update, a major bug has been detected, beware

For a few hours, Microsoft has released a new Moment update for Windows 11, Moment 2. It introduces many new features and improvements. Unfortunately not everything is perfect. A major bug is known. You should be careful.

The failure affects some UI customization apps. They no longer work as expected after installing Moment 2. In some cases the PC may find itself in a sort of infinite loop and no longer start. The problem is therefore critical.

Windows 11 and Moment 2 – Known bug from Microsoft

Microsoft is aware of the situation. If you are a victim of this bug you should contact the developers of these applications for assistance. Apparently two applications are affected by this problem. These are StartAllBack and ExplorerPatcher. In its support page Microsoft explains

After installing KB5022913 or later updates, Windows devices with certain third-party UI customization apps may become unbootable. These third-party applications can cause errors with explorer.exe that can repeat several times in a loop. Known affected third-party UI customization applications are ExplorerPatcher and StartAllBack. These types of apps often use unsupported methods to achieve their personalization and therefore may have unexpected results on your Windows device..

The firm adds that its investigation is continuing. In the meantime, it is strongly recommended to remove this software before installing Moment 2. Note that in the case of StartAllBack, installing the latest version may provide a solution. The giant specifies

We recommend that you uninstall any third-party UI customization application before installing KB5022913 to avoid this issue. If your Windows device is already experiencing this problem, you may need to contact the technical support of the developer of the application you are using. If you are using StartAllBack, you may be able to avoid this issue by updating to the latest version (v3.5.6 or later).

Note that this update of StartAllBack must be done before installing Moment 2.
