Windows runs better on macOS

You read that right… Apple hits where it hurts. Indeed, various tests show that the MacBook Air M2 is more comfortable under Windows than a Dell XPS Plus.

Currently, the video of Youtuber Max Tech is generating a lot of reactions. Indeed, he embarked on a full-scale performance test with the new MacBook Air M2 and the Dell XPS Plus. And the results are surprising.

The GPU power of the MacBook Air M2 far ahead

Throughout the video, various tests carried out with the GeekBench 5 program highlight the power of the new macbook. The results obtained are as follows (single-core and multi-core):

  • MacBook Air M2 : 1 681 et 7 260 points
  • Dell XPS Plus : 1 182 et 5 476 points

However, these results should be interpreted with caution. Indeed, the scores were measured while the two computers were not connected to the mains. Both processors have the ability to limit their frequency to avoid consuming too much and overheating.

On mains, the performance of the Dell XPS Plus is different:

  • Dell XPS Plus : 1 548 et 8 103 points

This means the Dell outperforms the MacBook in multi-core, but not single-core.

Surprising results

The use of Windows 11 under macOS is done through virtualization software. This means that the MacBook Air M2 is penalized in view of the “greedy” consumption necessary to run Windows 11.

However, this confirms that the machine, equipped with the latest Apple silicon M2 chip, is able to beat many direct competitors. Even on their own ground! There is reason to rejoice with the arrival of the next M2 Max and M2 Pro chips expected for the end of the year on the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro.
