The Premier of Quebec, François Legault, will serve a second four-year term. He won the legislative elections on 3rd October with more than 43% of the votes and he will therefore be at the head of a majority government. This result is consistent with the polls. If the policy of the outgoing government could be discussed and disputed, in particular about the defense of the French language, and of course health measures during the Covid crisis (stricter measures than in the rest of the Western world), the “PM” is thus confirmed by a large number of Quebecers. Note that the turnout was quite low.
At 9:30 p.m. Le Journal de Montréal gave these results:
– Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ, François Legault, nationalist): 43.3% – 93 elected.
– Parti Québecois (PQ, sovereigntist): 15.2%, 2 elected.
– Québec Solidaire (QS, social democrat): 14.6%: 11 elected.
– Liberal Party of Quebec (PLQ, liberal and federalist): 13.6%: 21 elected.
– Conservative Party of Quebec (PCQ): 13.4%: 0 elected.
