Winter fishing: knowledge pilot project in Kipawa – TVA Abitibi-Temiscamingue

Winter fishing is open especially this season in Kipawa.

Around thirty local volunteer fishermen will take part in a Ministry of the Environment pilot project which aims to identify native fish species.

The preservation of lake trout, a species of fish that has not been present in the region’s lakes for several years, is being promoted.

Several bodies of water have been deprived of winter fishing for ten years in order to preserve the lake trout population.

With this pilot project, the return of ice fishing might be considered.
