End clap for the Beijing Games this Sunday. For this final Olympic day, the last five gold medals must be awarded… if the weather does not prevent certain events from being held. There could be a chance of a medal for the French team in the parallel giant, before the closing ceremony, where Quentin Fillon Maillet will have the honor of being standard bearer.
Last chance in parallel giant
Initially scheduled for this Saturday, the last alpine skiing event, the team parallel, has been postponed for a day because of the excessive wind. With Alexis Pinturault and Tessa Worley leading the way to accompany Mathieu Faivre and Coralie Frasse-Sombet, the French team looks great and seems capable of winning a medal (from 2 a.m.). But for that the race will have to take place: the weather forecasts do not promise drastic improvements for Sunday.
The French for a bobsleigh runner-up
After the first two heats a little behind, the French four-man is currently in provisional 14th place. Led by driver Romain Heinrich, Lionel Lefebvre, Dorian Hauterville and Jérôme Laporal will try to move up the standings during the two rounds this Sunday. The title seems promised to one of the three German quartets, all present in the top 4.
Finals expected in hockey and curling
The highlight of these Games will be the men’s ice hockey final (at 5:10 a.m.) between Finland and the Russian Olympic Committee, which emerged from a tricky semi-final against Sweden on penalties.
In curling, the women’s final (at 2:05) will oppose two nations that were not expected at such a level: Japan and Great Britain. The British will try to avenge their male counterparts, who silver on Saturday after losing to Sweden.
The blue cross-country skiers against Johaug
Norwegian Therese Johaug will be aiming for a third individual title at these Winter Games, in the 30km (at 4 a.m.), for what will be the last Olympic race of her career. Sacred on the 10km and the skiathlon, the cross-country skier will once again be the big favorite in a race where the French women will try to put on a good figure for their last outing.
Fillon Maillet final standard bearer
The fortnight will end with a closing ceremony (at 1 p.m.), where all the athletes will parade in the Bird’s Nest. Appointed on Friday, Quentin Fillon Maillet will lead the French delegation. At the end of the ceremony, the Olympic flag will be presented to the mayors of the Italian cities Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, future hosts in 2026.
