With shouts of “fascists”, “terrorists” and “Mexico is respected”, the protesters denounced the assault on the Mexican diplomatic headquarters in the Mexican capital as an “invasion” and a criminalization of Mexican solidarity and the right to asylum. political.

Ana Alvarado, one of the protesters, told Xinhua that she was “totally outraged” since she learned about what happened last Friday in Quito, when, in addition to breaking into the Mexican Embassy in Ecuador, police officers detained former Ecuadorian vice president Jorge Glas. , to whom Mexico had granted political asylum.

“I believe that solidarity cannot be criminalized and that is what the fascist government of Ecuador has done. Mexico is accused of having given asylum to a persecuted person and the way in which they broke in was cowardly and factious,” Alvarado stated.

The protester added that there are many Mexicans outraged by what happened, and that they will not allow this to go unpunished. “We tell our government that it has done the right thing by breaking diplomatic relations. “It is the most correct thing and we are here to support the decisions made by the Mexican government,” she said.

The citizen protest in front of the Embassy of Ecuador, in the Polanco neighborhood of the Mexican capital, took place peacefully in the presence of officers from the Mexico City Security Secretariat who have been guarding the building since this morning.

Numerous governments and regional and international organizations have rejected and condemned the police operation at the Mexican Embassy in Ecuador, which they describe as violating international law and the most basic norms of diplomatic relations between countries.
