With Emirati participation… Efforts to clone a 9,000-year-old bull

The Emirates Center for Biotechnology Research is involved in the process of cloning an ancient bull estimated to be 8 to 9 thousand years old.

A group of scientists at the Russian University dissected the body of the bull, which remained buried in the ice for 8 to 9 thousand years, and was found in the summer of 2022 in the Verkhoyansk region of the Russian Republic of Yakutia.

It is expected that the results of the study, which is being conducted by the Emirates Center for Biotechnology Research, will allow obtaining information regarding the geological and biological age, structural features and environmental conditions of the habitats of the ancient bull.

The researchers who took part in the autopsy revealed how well the head, forelimbs and part of the chest of the ancient bull were preserved.

During the autopsy, samples were taken for microbiological, histological, cytological and radiocarbon studies.

The samples were taken for examination by placing them in the refrigerator of the Yakutsk City Museum and in special environments.

Computed tomography, morphologic and 3D scanning studies were also performed.
