With its AZ80 and AZ60M2, Technics pushes the limits of high-end wireless headphones

The Japanese Technics unveiled a few days ago its two new models of high-end wireless headphones that give pride of place to software features.

THE wireless headphones AZ80 and AZ60 Mark 2 therefore take over from the previous models released respectively in 2020 and 2021 already. Devices in the high-end segment that take advantage of the latest technological advances, particularly in codecs and connectivity.

A strong comeback

Audio subsidiary of the giant Panasonic, Technics, usually specialized in vinyl turntables, does not forget the amateurs and amateurs of good sound in the ears. The company is therefore bringing modernized versions of its successful AZ70 and AZ60 headphones to the market. The two AZ80 and AZ60M2 models are very similar on paper. According to the brand, they have a design and a structure that offers better comfort and increased stability in the ear, ideal for playing sports with.

The AZ80 model features new 10mm drivers that improve treble, overall frequency response and should reduce distortion. In short, that’s good if you believe Technics. On the other hand, the AZ60M2 use the same architecture as the standard AZ60. Finally, both devices are compatible with the high-quality LDAC Bluetooth audio codec in addition to the classic SBC and AAC.

Advanced features

The Technics headphones once again use the in-house JustMyVoice technology, which uses the devices’ four microphones to pick up the user’s voice and attenuate surrounding sounds as much as possible. The microphones are also used for the powerful active noise reduction announced by the brand. But one of the biggest new features on the headphones is undoubtedly the multipoint functionality which allows you to pair up to three devices simultaneously. Thus, it is possible to switch from your smartphone to your computer or tablet without having to disconnect anything.

The two earphones finally integrate proximity sensors which allow you to automatically pause listening if the devices are removed from the ears. Technics announces a maximum autonomy of 7h30 with the active noise reduction engaged and 24h cumulative with the refills of the box. The AZ80 model is sold for €299 while the AZ60M2 headphones are sold for €249.
